Healers and Seers

Psychics, Witch Doctors, and Medicine Men

Traditional healers and any "doctor" without a medical degree is generally thought to be rubbish in the western world. Herbal teas and medicinal roots as means to a cure were a time of the past; before science, before medical labs and a firm grasp on the mechanics of the human body. A similar feeling is shared for psycics and anyone claiming to have a "third eye" or "sixth sense." Magic isn't real. Ghosts don't exist. Humans can't see into the past or future, and any predictions about are lucky guesses or some kind of trick. Right? Maybe.

I don't usually subscribe to this kind of thinking. I'm a big supporter of western medicine and I am generally wary of individuals claiming to be in touch with anything paranormal. However, if studying psychology has taught me anything it's that A) We don't have a comprehensive understanding on how the brain works, and B) The mind is very powerful piece of equipment capable of surprising us every day. And if travel has taught me anything it's "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

So, whereas in the US I may not leap at the chance to have my palm read, when I am abroad I like to keep an open mind. If nothing else it will give me a glimpse into the world of locals and their way of thinking. And who knows? Maybe I will learn something along the way.

Below you will find links to my stories of meeting those in touch with a different reality than I am used to. Enjoy!
